I would like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in this project! Thanks to the help of so many people who contributed donations and other forms of support, from Italy as well as other countries, and the invaluable and patient on-site help of Dr. Darock, we have finally purchased the electrical and plumbing materials as well as the necessities for the construction of the enclosure of the house that will house the children. Also ordered were 10 bunk beds that will be locally manufactured from wood for the first children. The truck arrived in Mwenga at the end of May and work began on June 1!
My trip to Congo is scheduled for June 13. I will arrive in Goma on June 14 and plan to stay in Bukavu a few days-where I will be hosted by the Xaverian missionaries-to proceed with the purchase of other materials needed to finish the work and to set up the ateliers we plan to organize for vulnerable women. Once in Mwemga I will begin, with the help of Dr. Darock and his team, with the recruitment of local staff and the pre-selection of children and women, mainly from the city of Kamituga and its environs, particularly from the mining regions . The community has already been made aware of this so there will be many requests and reports, and we will have to initially stick to very strict inclusion criteria.
Thanking you again for your valuable cooperation, I extend my warmest greetings to all, hoping to send you more good news soon.
